METRO donates over $267,000 to the Food Banks of Quebec

On June 23, 2022, METRO announced that the fundraising campaign conducted among customers of its food banners in support of the Food Banks of Quebec had raised an impressive $267,615.

The fundraiser ran from May 26 to June 12 in about 300 Metro, Super C and Adonis stores in Quebec, where the teams mobilized to invite their customers to add a $2 donation at checkout. The money collected was used to offer food aid services to the population in each region of Quebec.

From a pilot project in 2014, more than 200 Metro, Super C and Adonis stores now participate in the Supermarket Recovery Program of the Food Banks of Quebec. Only in 2021, no less than 3,133,000 kilograms of food from these stores could be consumed rather than thrown away – the equivalent of 6,267,000 meals.

The Supermarket Recovery Program, METRO’s flagship initiative in the fight against food waste, collects and redistributes unsold but still safe-to-eat products to some 1,200 community organizations across the province.
